About the artist:
Natthapong Samakkaew’s practice centers on drawing, particularly through live drawing. Working on-site with pen and small sheets of paper, he responds to people, places, and situations through direct observation and presence. Often drawing in spaces where cameras are not welcome, such as clubs, darkrooms, cruising areas, and private gatherings, he records encounters, movements, and atmospheres through marks that exist between documentation and improvisation.
In the studio, these live drawings are expanded across scale and media, resulting in works that reflect personal memories, heritage, queer experiences, and everyday life. Samakkaew approaches drawing not only as a medium of representation but also as a method of seeing, inhabiting, and responding to the world around him.
